Where IS Mario Kart World's DLC, Anyway?

Mario Kart World has had a complicated time since it came out, to say the least. The game's seen a lot of attention, a lot of success, a fair share of controversies, and a few updates that have been steps in the right direction. But as we've put more distance between us and launch day, one question's been coming up more than the others: Where's the DLC?

Downloadable content has become pretty common in AAA games nowadays, especially multiplayer-heavy ones, and Mario Kart is no stranger to it. Which has made the lack of an announcement so far...strange. But is there more going on here, potentially, than it seems? Let's talk about it: What might be taking so long, and (if/when it shows up) what DLC for Mario Kart World might look like!
