When an Actor Has Two Careers - Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman is not your typical movie star. Breaking out in his 30s as one of the most iconic characters of his generation, it would have been easy to get typecast or cash in. But Jackman’s love for acting was pulled in two directions.

On one side he was Wolverine, slashing his way through ten X-Men films across 24 years, a role we can’t imagine going to someone else, even though it almost did. And on the other side he was winning a Tony Award for The Boy from Oz on Broadway, hosting the Oscars, and leading musicals like Les Misérables and The Greatest Showman that studios thought would never work.

It didn’t make sense. Action stars don’t usually sing and dance. And Broadway stars aren’t usually headlining blockbusters like it’s nothing. But Jackman built both careers at once, refusing to let Hollywood define him. He could switch from the angriest superhero to a desperate father in Prisoners, to the happiest showman on earth, and make all of it feel effortless.
