This 1950s Truck Was Never Meant for Fuel Injection

In this episode of the Scammell Explorer turbo build we fabricate a completely custom intake manifold so we can convert the original engine to modern fuel injection.

Starting with raw aluminium plate, bar and tubing, we build a new intake system from scratch. The new design will replace the original carburettor setup and allow us to run electronic fuel injection with modern injectors, velocity stacks and a throttle body.

Along the way we run into plenty of problems – including discovering our welder isn’t quite powerful enough for the job – but eventually manage to fabricate the intake manifold and get everything mounted on the engine.

The new manifold includes:
• Custom aluminium intake flange
• Modified velocity stacks
• Injector sleeves
• Custom plenum design
• Throttle body mounting

At the end of the episode we take a break from the Scammell project and go out for a test drive in the Cummins powered limo to see how the new fuel pump performs… which quickly turns into some drifting and high speed chaos.
