Video Information

The prehistoric ocean was a machine built for making monsters. For four hundred million years, across completely different eras, climates, and conditions, the ocean kept producing giant apex predators and massive marine creatures that dominated everything around them. Dunkleosteus, the armored predator that ruled the Devonian seas before teeth even existed. Leedsichthys, the largest bony fish that ever lived, a Jurassic filter feeder that proved how rich ancient oceans were. Mosasaurus, a land reptile that invaded the Cretaceous ocean and became the most dominant marine predator on Earth. And Megalodon, the last ocean giant, a shark so massive it hunted whales as its primary food source. Each one existed for a completely different reason. And every one of those reasons is now gone. The modern ocean is colder, more stable, and permanently closed for the kind of business it used to do. This is the story of why prehistoric oceans produced giants, why they kept doing it, and why they stopped.
