Travelling to the original crash site, we begin to piece together what happened on that final mission, from the wreckage left behind to the early stages of the aircraft’s remarkable restoration, including original parts recovered and brought back to life.

With historian Ian McLachlan, we explore the wider context of the invasion of Hungary, revealing why this aircraft was there in the first place and the role it played in the closing stages of the war.

At the heart of this story is the pilot, A young man whose fate we trace across decades, as we journey to Hungary to find his final resting place and remember the human story behind the machine.

Finally, we witness the aircraft as it is today, fully restored and returned to the skies, a powerful tribute to both the history and the people connected to it.
